General Election 2017 | Travelex currency commentary

9th June 2017

The General Election resulting in a hung parliament has caused uncertainty in the market and the pound has lost value against other currencies. Compared to 10am yesterday, Brits changing £500 at 9.15am today will get €11.12 or $15.50 less per £500.

In terms of whether it’s a good time to buy, that’s anyone’s guess. The pound has been volatile during the campaign period, and we expect this to continue as a new government is formed and the impact on Brexit negotiations becomes clearer.
