22 Sep 2014
• One in five have delayed summer holiday due to scorcher summer in the UK
• Half of Brits view warm temperatures as the most important factor when booking a holiday
• A fifth of Brits planning Spanish getaway during colder months
As warm temperatures continue to delight Britain, almost a fifth (15%) of Brits plan to delay breaks abroad to make the most of the Indian summer at home.
According to a survey released today by leading FX provider Travelex, half of Brits (48%) revealed that the weather is the biggest factor when deciding where to holiday this year, with value for money following in second place at 30%.
With temperatures in the UK hotter than most Mediterranean countries throughout July, many Brits opted for a staycation, taking advantage of the British sunshine. When asked, 28% of people decided to holiday in the capital, 16% of people headed to Devon and 15% of people enjoyed a trip to the coast in Brighton over the summer.
Looking to October for some final rays abroad, almost half of Brits (43%) admitted to delaying summer breaks to avoid peak season prices.
With guaranteed sun and temperatures of 20 degrees Celsius1, Spain tops the list of planned getaways with a fifth (20%) of UK holidaymakers choosing the Mediterranean country for their autumn holiday.
David Swann from Travelex comments; “It’s clear from our research that October through to December is a great time to be taking advantage of some winter sunshine. There are great last-minute deals for holidays in Europe out of peak season, plus with the Pound up against the Euro compared to this time last year, it makes perfect sense for Brits to start planning autumn getaways.”
